It’s a music blog, a parenting blog, a blog about working, a blog about modern life, a blog about my childhood family. In short, it’s a mixtape of what life looks like for a lot of us at the midpoint, a blending of the demands of family, marriage, work, memories, and the things for which we’re still passionate – in my case, music in all its guises. And as the tagline says, I’m an optimist – whatever comes next is bound to be awesome. Even if it’s not, I can probably squeeze a funny story out of it.
The best part of my day is when I hit “publish” then sit back and wait to hear from all my smart, funny readers. I’m so grateful that you take the time to stop by.
A little background: I’m a freelance writer and editor, and my essays have appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, KQED, Adirondack Life, skirt! Magazine, and Salon.com. I’ve had guest posts on BlogHer, Mamapedia, ScaryMommy, FunnyNotSlutty, SMARTS, It Builds Character, and The Flying Chalupa and am happy to consider other guest posting opportunities, especially if they’re music-related.
My hard working husband is an avid recreational cyclist who has taught me the ins and outs of pro cycling, and is the reason I wake up in the wee hours every morning in July to watch live coverage of the Tour De France. Watching with us at our home in San Francisco Bay Area are our two daughters to whom I cleverly refer as “Youngest Daughter” and “Oldest Daughter” when I write about them. As for the dog, well, he’s Achilles the German Shorthaired Pointer, and he’s happy for you to know that.

Midlife Mixtape Concert Review: English Beat
Of School Auctions and Self-Flagellation
For Advertisers/Sponsors
Midlife Mixtape is primarily a channel for my writing, and I put a premium on telling good, funny stories to my readers. Occasionally those stories may spring from a product or experience, like when I visited a trunk show for the clothing designer Tea and remembered what I forgot to do in raising my children. In those cases, if I love the product and if the company has creative ideas for blessing me and my readers with goodness, I am all ears. If the product is music-related, then I am all hands as well as all ears.
Please take the time to read through the blog and learn a bit about my readers and me before you get in touch. You could be selling the finest carburetor in the world but, girl, I cannot come up with a story on that one. It’s the difference between a pitch and a story prompt and in the case of the latter, it’s totally out of your control, I’m afraid.
If you’re ok with all that and still want to talk, drop me a line at to dj(at)midlifemixtape (dot) com.
